4.3.3 CHART Operator Interface
The CHART II operator graphical user interface (GUI) is the point of system integration for the CHART II user. Like other CHART II applications, it communicates with supporting applications via the ORB and IDL, as shown in figure 4-6. This approach enables modular construction of the GUI and evolutionary change as CHART II matures.

The cornerstone of the CHART II GUI will be the display map. All CHART II devices will appear as overlay icons on the map. These icons will be used to invoke services for the operator such as CCTV display and control, VMS messaging, and traffic detector segment speed plotting.
